Recently, there has been a new regulation introduced that affects residential insulation. All residential insulation projects for new construction require blower door testing. The Boak & Sons team is already certified to conduct this test to meet new state requirements.
Blower door tests are done to measure the air tightness of a building and the way air filters out of a home. The testing equipment includes a fan, which pressurizes and depressurizes by producing different airflow into the building. This is a process that helps residential insulators ensure the home meets the appropriate building performance standards.
A blower door test will tell a contractor or a home owner where the problem areas are within their home and air leaks can be sealed. This will keep new residential properties efficient in heating and cooling and keep energy costs low.
With a blower door certification, our crews are trained how to install, measure and identify any leakage areas, and correct these issues to meet state code requirements. “By performing this test, we will have a full understanding of what residential insulation is needed,” says Todd Fabian, a residential insulation estimator at Boak & Sons.
Unfortunately, there is not much that can be done to an existing home with a blower door test. Once residential insulation is installed behind walls and a home is pieced together it is costly to correct. Luckily, Boak & Sons residential insulators have alternative ways they can help ensure you home is energy efficient and isn’t costing you money.
