The Akron Children’s Hospital Beeghly Campus in Boardman, Ohio underwent a significant expansion with the completion of a new emergency department. Here are the details of the project, which was started in December 2021 and completed in May 2023 by Boak & Sons:

  1. Roofing and Insulation:
    • Installed new Johns Manville .060 EPDM adhered roofing, insulation, and vapor barrier at the new low-sloped entrance canopies and new low-sloped roof areas (approximately 18,300 square feet). This work covered both new construction and existing metal roof decks.
  2. Ventilated Nail Board and Shingles:
    • Over the new Penthouse and Front Entrance Lobby sloped metal decks, Boak & Sons installed a ventilated nail board, insulation, and vapor barrier.
    • They also installed Owens Corning Oakridge shingles (approximately 10,150 square feet), complete with an ice and water membrane, shingle ridge vent, valley metal, drip edge, and Berger stainless steel snow guards.
  3. Fascia and Soffit:
    • The new Penthouse building received new Peterson Aluminum Fascia and Soffit.
  4. Rain Screen Composite Panels:
    • At the new Emergency front lobby and canopy, Boak & Sons installed new Knightwall hat channels and Reynobond 4MMFR Rain Screen composite panels.
  5. Flashing and Tie-In:
    • New EPDM flashing was installed and tied in with both the new and existing EPDM roof areas.
  6. Low-Slope Roof Parapet Walls:
    • Boak & Sons also added Johns Manville .060 EPDM flashing and Prestolock copings to the low-slope roof parapet walls.

The expanded emergency department now provides improved facilities, including additional treatment rooms, behavioral health flex rooms, isolation rooms, and enhanced radiology services. It’s a valuable investment in the Mahoning Valley community, ensuring that infants, children, and teens have access to the care they deserve123.
