2 Ways to help Protect Your Roof this winter from Sam Boak at Boak & Sons

The winters in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania can be brutal. From extreme cold temperatures, heavy snow and layers of ice, winter can be incredibly hard on a roof! It can definitely be hard for companies like Boak & Sons to perform repairs during these conditions. Sam Boak is all about putting safety first, and if there’s a ton of snow on a roof or if the temperature is too low, we may not be able to safely work on it. That’s why Sam Boak wanted to share 3 ways to protect your roof from the winter weather to help make sure you stay dry and warm all winter long!

  1. Get repairs or replacements scheduled before the weather gets bad.

This is one of the easiest ways to proactively protect your roof throughout winter. If you know you have repairs that need done, get them scheduled now! It’s already December, and we know the weather tends to get really bad after the New Year. As long as the temperature isn’t too low, we should be able to access your roof safely. Don’t wait! Sam Boak is happy to talk to any customer about what their roof needs to make it through the rest of the season.

  1. Keep ice dams from forming on your roof.

Ice dams can be destructive to even brand new roofs. These are ridges of ice that build up on the edge of your roof and prevents water from draining properly. As snow melts, more and more water builds up behind the dam which can leak into your home. There are a few ways to safely prevent ice dams from forming, such as heat cables or a snow rake. Keeping the snow off of your roof will definitely help, as well as making sure your gutters are clean and having your roof and attic checked for proper ventilation and insulation to prevent ice dams. Again, these are preventative measures Sam Boak says you can take before the heavy winter weather hits!

We want to make sure your roof is sturdy all winter long. This is a process that should start before weather turns bad! If you have repair needs or questions, or if you just want to make sure you’re good to go for winter, give us a call at 330-793-5646 or fill out a contact form on our website!
