Choosing Commercial Roofing Materials and their Benefits

If you own a commercial building, keeping the roof in good shape is vital. Knowing what kind of roofing material your building has can be helpful when it comes time for repairs! The experts at Boak & Sons install multiple commercial roofing materials, each having their own benefits. We’ve put together a list of the different materials we offer to help you be more aware of our products and how they can improve your building’s roof:

  1. Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM): This one’s a mouthful, so we refer to it as EPDM roofing material. This is one of the most common materials and is often called rubber roofing. This is one of the most versatile, durable materials available and it’s extremely easy to install because it remains flexible in cold temperatures. It also absorbs heat without sustaining damage from UV rays.
  2. Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO): TPO roofing is an extremely popular commercial roofing material because of its white color, which helps to reflect UV rays. This helps reduce increasing temperatures in your building. TPO is also a durable material that is resistant to damage and corrosion from a number of potential hazards. One of the best features of this material is the seam bonding – the membrane is hot-air welded together creating an extremely well-sealed bond which means better protection against leaks!

  3. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC): Although this commercial roofing material is a higher initial investment, it makes up for it in durability. PVC has extremely high resistance to moisture, wind and chemicals, and is installed using heat welding to create a strong bond between each sheet.

  4. Shingles: Did you think shingles were just for houses? Nope! Many commercial structures have shingle roofs, such as churches, condo associations, municipalities and more. We are an Owens Corning PLATINUM preferred contractor, meaning we offer shingles from one of the top manufacturers in the US. This list gives a very brief overview of our commercial roofing materials and doesn’t encompass them all. Commercial roofing requires the right material for the right application.
