Exterior Contractors Say Now is the Time to Start Planning Ahead for Cold Weather

The summer has flown by and autumn is fast approaching in Northeast Ohio. It won’t be long till the temperature drops and the fall weather rolls in. Sam Boak, exterior contractor and owner of Boak & Sons, advises homeowners in Northeast Ohio to be aware of household needs and plan ahead for even colder temperatures.

The roofing season usually continues until November, but is heavily dependent on nice weather in order to complete projects. Exterior contractors can’t complete work due to safety and manufacturing standards when the weather gets cold. Fall is the best time to inspect your roofing, check your insulation, and clear your gutters in preparation for the coming winter.

“Our project managers will provide free estimates to help prevent issues in your home before they begin,” Says Sam Boak, President of Boak & Sons. “When you are proactive in home maintenance, you have the time to find the best quality and the right price. If you wait until you need a service your decision is rushed and may not have the time to find the right exterior contractor.”

If your home was hot over the summer, fall is a great time to check for sufficient home insulation. Insulating your home with the correct R-value insulation material helps save countless dollars in energy savings. Homes built before the 1970s likely have little to no insulation within the walls. If you have an older home, it is likely that the required R-Value in insulation has increased and your home is in need of an update.

The same goes for your roof. If you see shingles are cracked, curled, or missing, you should schedule an estimate to get them replaced before it turns into a leak. Gutters that go uncleaned can hold stagnant water. When the temperature drops, the frozen water and snow can cause your gutter system to become heavy and pull away from your home. This will likely cost you come spring when your gutters no longer function the way they are supposed to.
